Sudha Pennathur is a nationally renowned designer from California.  Working with award winning artisans and hundreds of craftspeople in India, she designs and produces jewelry, accessories and decorative arts for the home reflecting her distinct and rich cultural heritage. “I merge the East and the West,” Ms. Pennathur has said. “I take the work of Indian master craftsmen and translate it to suit Western tastes.” She has employed over 2000 artisans over a course of 20 years to produce her collections for prestigious stores, catalogs and museum stores across the US. Her collections give her a distinctive presence as she sells more than 1200 styles of jewelry, textiles, accessories and ornaments in some of America’s most famous retail institutions – Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and

Bergdorf Goodman, among others.

 

 

Sudha's jewelry uses ethnographic details and is inspired by age old crafts and designs from the Mughal period, the Raj period and of Tribal India and in so doing she has helped revive crafts, some of which were nearing extinction. Using materials available from nature she fabricates intricate jewelry designs and textiles. Form and function are woven together into sophisticated and enduring designs in her collections. Her unique interpretation adapts these pieces to the contemporary American woman. Whether it is a one of a kind necklace, hand embroidered jeweled ornaments, or uniquely woven scarves, each is a work of art and a keepsake. Eco sensitive, her fabrics are often vegetable dyed and hand printed. Fabrics in wall hangings and bags use antique recycled materials to give it that unique flair.

 

Sudha has also created special  exhibition related shops for The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to name a few. Her works are currently featured at The Smithsonian, The National Geographic, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the
